SEE ME – NICHOLAS SPARKS

seemeeColin Hancock – bartender, student, MMA fighter – has lived a reckless life as a rebellious, troubled child and adult. Clinging to his last second chance, he is determined to stay out of trouble. Maria Sanchez, a lawyer and daughter of immigrant parents, is as far flung in character from Colin as any one person. A chance encounter during a stormy sets the two on an inevitable journey in which love flourishes amid crises, par Nicholas Sparks.

What follows is a love story that is lackluster, missing key Nicholas Sparks elements in a novel that carries more of an experimental feel for the established author. As his eighteenth novel to date, See Me is a mix between suspense and romance, with typical Sparks characters and not much else. From the mind that conjured up such melancholic hits as The Notebook and The Fault In Our Stars, See Me is a tangential work that lacks the feel of other Nicholas Sparks novels.
The romance between Maria Sanchez and Colin Hancock carries a forced authenticity to it that almost makes it easy to overlook the tediousness of the story – it drags on in the beginning, hardly eventful or engaging, while the secondary characters simply populate the pages and nothing more.
Believable or not, the connection between Maria and Colin is what the book hinges on in the beginning, while the last part of the story becomes a mediocre thrill featuring Maria's stalker and the search for answers.
On the whole, the story is a marked departure from the usual tear-jerkers that the world has come to love and expect from Nicholas Sparks. While it did make it on to the New York Times bestselling list, the novel is a hit or miss: if you love the deeply emotional rollercoaster of The Notebook, See Me might not win over your affection. However, for those that seek a suspense thriller that is light on romance, See Me might just be your next favorite read.
