'BEAUTY WITH A PURPOSE'

1-beauty1It is not often that beauty pageant participants believe their vocation is a way of honouring God. Religious purists have often typically associated it with vanity and secularism. Not so a young Motswana woman who is turning admiring glances on the catwalk.

"Using my beauty to bring honour to God and please him in such way that i take other people's interest in hand before mine is my aim," said model Kelly Yaone Keakile.

Currently studying Computer Information System at University of Botswana, Keakile delved into the fashion world at the of age of nine. Just like any other model out there she started as a beauty pageant and later thanks to her mother who made it possible for her to enroll under the Miss Little Francistown beauty pageant.

"It was quite exciting for me to be part of such a pageant, credit should go to my mother (Joyce Hulela) for registering me for the competition. Unluckily i did not make into the top 3 and it was very devastating for me because i was aiming to be a princess," said Keakile.

Two years later Keakile entered the Miss Little Police, a beauty competition created for force workers children. It was the Miss Little Police beauty competition that broke the ice for Keakile as she was crowned the Queen.

It was such a great feeling being crowned queen, it motivated me in such way that i even felt that i can enter any competition," Keakile highlighted.

During secondary education Keakile decided to take a pause in the fashion world.

"It was because i relocated to Tonota so it kind of disturbed my beauty pageant career,"revealed Keakile. The Molepolole born lass diverted from beauty peagentry to modelling last year. Her first modelling competition was the Queen Esther International Beauty Pageant which is a beauty competition for Christians aiming to empower young girls and teach them leadership and governance skills.

The 20 year old is currently 1st princess of the Queen Esther. "For me it was not about getting the money or title, i was just wanted platform and exposure." However Keakile says the competition was challenging as they had interviews after interviews. "The questions were difficult because i remember the hardest question was: summarize the book of Esther."

Apart from being a model Keakile is a member of the Google Developers Gaborone (GDG), the assistant Music Director of Douzy Brand Entertainers and she is also a Techie (an individual into technology). The charismatic young lady goes by the tagline: 'if the dream is big enough the facts do not count.'

The Queen Esther beauty pageant will be conducting auditions on the 9th of July at Winners Chapel (Block 6) and the age restriction is 18 to 26 years.
