P30 000 Up For Grabs At BSE’s Annual Schools Competition

A lucrative P30 000 is up for grabs this year as the Botswana Stock
Exchange (BSE) hosts its 5th annual Senior Secondary Schools competition
next month.

The competition which is scheduled for the 19th August offers an
opportunity for extensive deliberations on issues of finance and investment
and is designed for form four (4) students who square off at the University
of Botswana library auditorium in Gaborone.

A press release from Botswana Stock Exchange states that BSE strives to
raise awareness on finance and investment issues in a quest to identify new
markets.

“Currently, the BSE Market Development  conducts and facilitates
initiatives that strive to promote awareness about investment opportunities
in the BSE in order to improve retail investor participation in the stock
market,’’ states the release.

To disseminate knowledge capital market knowledge BSE has targeted
youngsters: “This entails identifying or developing new market segments for
the current BSE offering.’’

Moving swiftly to raise financial and investment literacy the Botswana
Stock Exchange (BSE) launched the Annual Senior Secondary Schools
Competition in 2013 to educate the students about capital markets and to
promote the investment culture at a tender age.

The release further reads, “In addition ,this on -going initiative will
assist in providing a platform for students to gain an in-depth insight
into the importance of future financial planning and to harness knowledge
on how the stock market can be utilized as an investment avenue.’’

The winners of this year’s competition will be accorded a chance to ‘kick
start’ their investment portfolios. Top three schools will each share a
voucher amounting to P30, 000.

A price value of P15 000 is reserved to the school that will emerge on the
first spot, the second placed school will get P9000 whilst the third placed
school will walk away with P6000 respectively. There are also prices for
participants and schools inclusively devised from the vouchers up for grabs.

The completion is open to both government and private Senior Secondary
Schools in Botswana.
