LegalWise officially launches legal aid facility in Botswana

LegalWise200Executive Officer Legal Services Dave Clark(L) and CEO Jan Luwes(R)LegalWise, a South African based legal expenses company officially launched its product and service offering today enabling members to enforce and define their rights through professional legal representation for attorney costs of up to P79,000 per matter for only P79 per month.

"People are afraid not only of the costs, length and uncertain outcome of court proceeding but also of the costs of legal representation," said Fazel Ameen, Divisional Head of LegalWise Botswana.

He said, "As a consequence, a lot of people do not even try to assert their rights. By contrast, those who take out LegalWise membership will be assisted by a Legal counsellor either face to face in the Branch or telephonically or through an external lawyer."

LegalWise Botswana which was licensed on the 26th October 2012 started selling legal insurance on the 14th December 2012. It expects to roll out branches countrywide within a two year time frame.

It has already enrolled about 500 clients in and around Gaborone and is expected to further access to legal aid for individuals seeking assistance for civil, criminal and labour related matters including family matters such as divorce and child maintenance as well as standard legal consultations.

"There is no reason that your legal costs should cripple you, nor should you be afraid to actively pursue your rights. LegalWise will answer any legal questions that you might have, so make use of our 24 hour helpline," said Tshepiso Mongwa, Senior Legal Counsellor at LegalWise Botswana.

Mongwa revealed LegalWise not only covers the primary member but also their spouse or partner and all children under the age of 18 or 21 if they are studying full time at a school, college or university. LegalWise also offers access to LegalWise branches and payment of legal expenses for covered matters whilst visiting or staying temporarily in South Africa.

"We are building a strong team in Botswana and look forward to watching the company grow," said Jan Luwes, Chief Executive Officer for Legal Expenses Insurance Southern Africa limited. LegalWise also pays P7,500 in cash for legal expenses in case of the accidental death of the main member to a nominated beneficiary to assist them to pay for legal costs relating to the death.
