State defends deal with Japan Tobacco

- Increases grants to bolster food production

The Botswana Government has defended it decision to enter into a licensing agreement with Japan Tobacco to commercialize technology on monocots(narrow leaved) plants like maize, millet and rice saying it will receive a once payment of US$20000 including taxes paid in two instalments and a share of the net profits or royalties arising from the sale of the technology at 22.5%.
