BFTU Calls for Decent Work and a Decent Living on Worker's Day

The Botswana Federation of Trade Unions (BFTU) has called on government to take seriously the need to introduce a living wage, as opposed to a minimum wage, to ensure a decent life for Batswana.Reflecting on the theme for Worker's Day 2012, 'Call For a Living Wage – a Call For a Decent Wage and Decent Living', BFTU President, Allan Keitseng, has advocated for a change in government policy and urged that the country break away from policies that determine a minimum wage, and instead adopt a system that establishes a living wage.

Monitoring contractors ‘mission impossible’

Delays in submissions of end of activity reports by public entities pose a challenge to the Board in terms of tracking the performance of all contractors say authorities at the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Board(PPADB).

“In 2011/12, 53 or 36% out of a total of 148 expected end of activity reports were submitted and reviewed by the Board,” said Bridget Poppy John, Executive Chairperson of PPADB.
