Electricity meters still being installed in Francistown

The installation of infrastructure necessary to convert customers in Francistown to prepaid metering system is ongoing. "The installation of meters has been completed with the exception of some 1,915 customers where Botswana Power Corporation(BPC) was not able to gain access.

These will be installed during the actual conversion of customers to prepaid electricity. These will be installed during the actual conversion of consumers to prepaid electricity," said Ponatshego Kedikilwe, Vice President and Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources in Parliament Wednesday

He said, "A new system to be used for vending prepaid electricity in Francistown and the rest of the country is currently being tested and is planned to be fully operational by the end of August 2012."

According to officials the project plan is that the conversion of consumers in Francistown to prepaid metering will commence in January 2013 and be completed by the end of April 2013.
