IMG 6790OLEKARD CEO Pule MmolotsiLocal inventor, Pule Mmolotsi, is planning to change the way Batswana travel and shop. Mmolotsi has announced the launch of the“OleKard”, a pay-per-use transport card system.

In a brief press statement, OleKard Technology Chief Executive Officer Mmolotsi said, “We are delighted to introduce this project. The aim is to develop a multi-functional OleKard for the payment of fares, travel passes and other day-to-day products and services without service charges, and at a discounted rate. The new card helps people living in Botswana in their daily operations, from purchasing bus fares to paying for their grocery shopping, all with just one card in their wallet”.

The project is currently in the testing phase, with Mmolotsi reporting that the card will be available at outlets from 25thApril, 2012. The next stage of the project will then involve a 6 month roll-out phase nationwide, with the card and reloading services being made available at 24-hour convenience stores and chain stores. The sale of the product will also involve independent vendors, with Mmolotsi hoping to create 1000 jobs and encourage the growth of 100 small businesses through the venture.

According to Mmolotsi, the OleKard is set to change the conventional mindset of transport users, as well as public transport operators, and ensure improved safety and security by removing cash from buses, preventing fraud and robberies and improving services, operating under the slogan “Kgwebo e tlhamaletse”.

“The realization of this innovative project for Botswana public transport is a tangible example of OleKard Technologies making a foot print in Botswana and SADC, as the project aims at the region from Botswana as a launching pad and our ability to offer state-of-the-art services and solutions in the field of pre-payments systems”, he said.
