The organizers of the skydiving activity at Makgadikgadi epic, Parachute Association of Botswana (PAB) expressed appreciation at the help received from Botswana Tourism Organization (BTO).
The skydiving activity attracted 70 to 80 skydivers from different countries including South Africa, United Kingdom, and Germany amongst others.
“We put together this event mainly for sports tourism as we are trying to push development of skydiving in Botswana. We are getting large amounts of help from BTO and we are grateful of them because that does not generally happen in other countries,” said Garai Makaya the spokesperson of PAB.
Reached for a comment, the sole professional skydiver from Botswana who was present at the Makgadikgadi Epic revealed that the BTO activities are really helping them to broaden their diving experience as they get to partake in activities like Khawa and the Epic events.
He went on to say that the presence of international skydivers during the Epic is helping them in in terms of growing as divers because at moment they do not have facilities to train of which in some occasions they train with internationals more especially with those from South Africa.
“Yes we are getting help from Botswana National Sports Commission and we appreciate their support because the sport is not familiar in Botswana.”
In an exclusive interview with The Tswana Times Sports, Ben Gingold a skydiver from UK did not hesitate to share his delight at partaking in the Epic saying “I was invited by my friend to come and take part in this event but I do not regret coming here. Makgadikgadi is such an amazing and beautiful place, I have been skydiving for six years now but I have never had this fun in my life.”
Gingold said that the most exciting thing about the diving event is the free fall even though for a moment one feels that he/she is dead.
