BOFEPUSU report BOTS to ILO

BFA and Butler go separate ways

-           Butler eyed by Platinum Stars

Zebras Head coach, Peter James Butler has quit as the national team coach.

Butler is currently being linked to a move to RSA where he is being touted
to fill the vacant Platinum stars head coach position. This publication
however cannot deny nor agree to the allegations.

Sources close to the reports have linked the Brit to “Dikwena,” who are
said to have found a permanent replacement for Cavin Johnson after the club
failed to renew his contract due to his failure to secure a top 8 finish.
According to sources close to the matter, it is believed that Butler went
for an interview with the Rustenburg based outlet sometime this week.

The reports come days after the Zebras poor display against Mauritania with
Butler venting his frustration towards the Botswana Football
Association(BFA) who he accused of pettiness that triggered his side’s poor
display.

If the reports are anything to go by, this will see the coach’s 3 year
strife torn marriage with the BFA come to an end after a mixture of both
good and bad performances. The coach has never qualified for any major
tournament with the Zebras, except for COSAFA where his team was crushed by
a ruthless South African side.

Upon his arrival, Butler was heavily criticized him for fielding young and
inexperienced players as opposed to his predecessors who opted for experience. Defying expectations, the team won many supporters hearts by
exhibiting a youthful and exhilarating style of play.

BFA Public relations Tumo Mpatane was quoted saying that BFA has decided to
part ways with Butler. “We have parted ways with Butler on a mutual
understanding,’’ he acknowledged.

He said Zebras assistant coach Oris Radipotsane will assume the interim
role of head coach. “We are pleased to announce that local coach Oris
Radipotsane will be taking over as the coach,’’ revealed Mpatane.

Butler’s departure comes at a time when he was expected to lead the Zebras
to the CAN competition in 2019.

However there continued to be uncertainty regarding his contract extension
and it was not clear whether BFA wanted him at the helm.

Bloemfontein Celtics are also reportedly vying for the former Zebras
mentor’s signature.
