Award winning Mable Bolele who is best remembered amongst colleagues in the media for her feat as the 2024 Africa Public Sector Award winner for Woman of the Year in Communications and promoting the profile of Botswana Unified Revenue Service(BURS) especially amongst local media has retired quietly end of June after a remarkable period of engagement in the communications space.
Bolele who is recognized for her expertise in developing and executing strategic communication plans is best known for her success in working to raise the profile of the revenue collector and encouraging small business owners to pay their taxes.
“But before I close this chapter, I felt it necessary to reach out specifically to you the media fraternity, who have been my partners and friends throughout this journey,” said Mable Bolele, whose last work station was as Chief Executive Assistant to the Commissioner General, Botswana Unified Revenue Service
She said, “My career began with you. I spent 10 years as a journalist at the Department of Information and Broadcasting, as a reporter, sub-editor, including providing media coverage to the Former President HE F.G Mogae and his Cabinet, and learning firsthand the weight of your calling.”
Bolele then spent the next 25 years on the other side as a Public Relations and Communications Expert.
“To the many journalists I have worked with across the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, the United Nations (UNICEF, WHO), SADC Climate Services Centre, BCL Mine, ACHAP,BOTEC and finally BURS, I thank you. You held me accountable, challenged our institutions, and together we navigated complex stories from health crises to climate change to revenue collection,” said Bolele.
Bolele stressed that she always believed that journalists and communicators share a common mission: to serve the public with truth, integrity, and purpose.
Her career includes serving as Private Secretary to the Ministers of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, where she managed ministerial communications, speechwriting, and stakeholder relations.
She has also served as a Special Reporter for the former President of the Republic of Botswana, providing news coverage for the President and senior cabinet members on official trips.
