Botswana Post has launched Postal Parcel Insurance to protect its customers against financial loss in the event of theft or accidentally damaged parcels. The project was developed by its subsidiary PosoInsure in partnership with InsureGuard.
Customers will be able to insure parcels valued up to P30 000 with a 3% charge on the value of the parcel. The insurance cover includes 96 hours of temporary storage during transit. Quotations for higher valued items will be available upon request.
However, the following are excluded: cash, negotiable instruments, stamps and other specified items included in the delivery contract.
“Our purpose is to complement Botswana Post’s trusted delivery network by ensuring that customers not only move their parcels with confidence but also protect the value of what they are sending,” said Ms. Gorata Kewakae, Botswana Post’s Principal Post Officer.
Ms. Kewakae indicated that BotswanaPost will to continue to adjust to technological developments to protect their clients.
“Every day, individuals, entrepreneurs, online businesses, government institutions, and corporations entrust valuable goods to the BotswanaPost network. Whether it is an important business document, medical supplies, electronics, furniture, or personal belongings, customers rely on us to deliver safely and reliably,” said Ms. Kewakae.
She said, “As e-commerce continues to grow and more people rely on courier and postal services for business and personal transactions, the need for reliable parcel protection will only increase.”
Botswana Post’s partner InsureGuard was represented by its Managing Director Boipelo Khupe.
“I would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Botswana Post for this strategic partnership and for their confidence in us as the underwriting partner for this exciting initiative,” said Khupe.
He said, “Every day, thousands of parcels travel across Botswana carrying items that are valuable, not only financially, but emotionally. They contain business stock, school materials, gifts from loved ones, important documents, and countless items that matter deeply to the people sending and receiving them.”
Khupe said the partnership illustrates InsureGuard’s commitment to further extend its reach to the public.
“Innovation Through Collaboration’, this partnership represents the future of insurance. Rather than asking customers to come to insurers, we are embedding insurance into services people already use every day,” added Khupe.
